Veteran saved by dog and duck after battling for his life in coma

Bravehound Irma refused to leave ex-soldier Paul Wilkie’s side as he battled with life-threatening sepsis in hospital.

The veteran – who suffers from PTSD – has fought a number of physical illnesses after leaving the army including Crohn’s and colitis.

While in hospital in 2016, Paul developed sepsis which placed him in a coma for 10 days.

Given just 36 hours to live at one point, the 47-year-old ended up staying in the hospital for a further seven months.
During that time his Bravehound Irma refused to leave his side and the pair were only separated when he was placed in the ICU.
